Puppyhood is full of big moments. The first walk, the first mischief, the first tooth to fall out—and plenty of growth in between. During this period, your puppy needs food that’s tailored to this specific stage of life, when their body is developing the most.
That’s why Monster Dog Classic Puppy comes in two varieties: Puppy S/M and Puppy L/XL. These are two puppy foods based on the same simple Classic concept, but tailored for puppies that will grow to different sizes as adults.
Just like the rest of the Monster Dog Classic line, our Puppy foods are based on a simple philosophy: good dog food doesn't have to be complicated.
Meat is the first ingredient—dried meat first, along with at least 10% fresh meat in every recipe. The ingredient list is short, straightforward, and easy to understand, without a lot of frills.
Quite simply, a complete puppy food with everything a growing dog needs, packaged in the Classic style.
Monster Dog Classic Puppy S/M is designed for puppies of small and medium breeds.
Smaller dogs reach full size earlier than larger dogs and therefore need a formula tailored to their growth. The size of the kibble is also adapted for smaller mouths, making mealtime easier for the little puppy.
Puppy S/M is suitable for puppies of breeds that weigh less than 25 kg as adults; they typically need puppy food from about 2 to 12 months of age. Of course, this is also the food they are fed by the breeder before they are 2 months old, though at that stage they are also nursing from their mother.
A puppy that will one day weigh 30, 40, or perhaps even more kilograms has a completely different growth journey ahead of it.
Monster Dog Classic Puppy L/XL is therefore specially formulated for puppies of large and extra-large breeds. The recipe is balanced to meet the needs of a larger dog during its longer growth period and as it develops.
For large breeds that weigh 25–40 kg as adults, Puppy L/XL is usually suitable from about 2 to 18 months of age, while very large breeds weighing over 40 kg may need puppy food until about 24 months of age, before they have fully grown.
It can be easy to think that puppy food is just puppy food, but especially with large breeds, it’s important that growth occurs at the right pace and that the skeleton continues to develop even after the puppy has stopped growing in height; it may seem as though the puppy has finished growing, but in reality, this is when the skeleton reaches full maturity. This is a sensitive period that requires the right composition and balance between energy and calcium/phosphorus for a strong skeletal system.
Therefore, we recommend that you choose between Puppy S/M and Puppy L/XL based on your dog's expected adult weight, not on how big the puppy happens to be right now.
